Turf War (Japanese: ナワバリバトル Nawabari Batoru / Territory Battle) is a mode in Splatoon. It is classified as a Regular Battle. Players must ink the most turf to win the match, and are split into two teams of four.
Turf War was announced at E3 2014, a year after the game began development.
Turf War is playable by eight people, each on their own console. They are divided into two teams of four, each team assigned its own ink color (ink color is chosen randomly). Teams must attempt to splatter their ink around the arena avoiding enemy shots along the way. After the timer reaches 0, Judd calculates what percentage of the arena is covered in each team's ink. The team with the highest percentage of coverage wins the round.
It should be reminded that the player mainly splatters ink on the Ground because walls do not add to your percentage count. Walls should only be splattered to get up to high places.
A quick way for players to be able to see who is currently in the lead is to refer to the Squid icons at the top of the screen. As well as displaying player status - the size of these Squid icons in fact determines who is in the lead, meaning the larger Squid icons determine which team is currently in the lead. A "Danger!" icon appears over a teams icons when the corresponding team is at least 10% coverage behind.
- If both teams didn't ink the ground until the end of the match, the system would randomly choose one of the teams won with 0.1~0.3% .
