Amiibo are figurines produced by Nintendo that are equipped with Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology and can be used in a variety of games.

Splatoon

On April 1, 2015, Nintendo announced in a Nintendo Direct that Splatoon would be receiving three different amiibo on May 29, 2015. Each amiibo, when scanned in Inkopolis Plaza, unlocks twenty different challenges in Hero Mode and new exclusive accessories to wear into battle. The three amiibo that have been released are the Inkling Girl amiibo, the Inkling Boy amiibo, and the Inkling Squid amiibo with the latter only purchasable exclusively in the three-pack in North America; and in Europe exclusively in the Splatoon + Inkling Squid amiibo bundle. On April 30, 2016 an amiibo package containing the Squid Sisters was announced along with recolors for the original three amiibo.

Inkling Girl

The Inkling Girl amiibo is an amiibo that was released on May 29, 2015 alongside Splatoon. She provides 20 Charger challenges in Octo Valley and rewards the player with an exclusive costume piece, a minigame, or weapon for every four challenges completed. After completing all challenges, the player will complete the set and receive the exclusive School uniform outfit. This amiibo can be purchased separately, or in a pack of three with the Inkling Boy amiibo and the Inkling Squid amiibo in North America or Europe. On April 30, 2016 a green recolor was announced for the Inkling Girl amiibo.

Challenges

These Hero Mode challenges must be completed with the Hero Charger:

  • Level 1: Octotrooper Hideout - Reward: 600 coins
  • Level 2: Lair of the Octoballs - Reward: 700 coins
  • Level 3: Rise of the Octocopters - Reward: 800 coins
  • Level 5: Floating Sponge Garden - Reward: 900 coins
  • Level 6: Propeller-Lift Playground - Reward: 1000 coins
  • Level 7: Spreader Splatfest - Reward: 1100 coins
  • Level 13: Shifting Splatforms - Reward: 1200 coins
  • Level 14: Octoling Assault - Reward: 1300 coins
  • Level 15: Undeniable Flying Object - Reward: 1400 coins
  • Level 16: Propeller-Lift Fortress - Reward: 1500 coins
  • Level 17: Octosniper Ramparts - Reward: 1600 coins
  • Level 20: Octoling Uprising - Reward: 1700 coins
  • Level 23: Spongy Observatory - Reward: 1800 coins
  • Level 25: Far-Flung Flooders - Reward: 1900 coins
  • Level 27: Unavoidable Flying Object - Reward: 2000 coins

Boss Challenges

For each boss, you unlock a unique item, weapon or minigame that depends on the boss.

Inkling Boy

The Inkling Boy amiibo is an amiibo that was released on May 29, 2015 along with Splatoon. It can be used to unlock 20 Roller challenges in Hero Mode and rewards the player with an exclusive costume piece, minigame, or weapon for every four challenges completed. After completing all challenges, the player will complete the set and receive the exclusive Samurai outfit.  This amiibo can be purchased separately, or in a pack of three with the Inkling Girl amiibo and the Inkling Squid amiibo. On April 30, 2016 a purple recolor was announced for the Inkling Boy.

  • Level 11: Inkvisible Avenues - Reward: 1300 coins
  • Level 12: Flooder Junkyard - Reward: 1400 coins
  • Level 18: Spinning Spreaders - Reward: 1500 coins
  • Level 19: Tumbling Splatforms - Reward: 1600 coins
  • Level 21: Unwelcome Flying Object - Reward: 1700 coins
  • Level 22: Switch Box Shake-Up - Reward: 1800 coins
  • Level 24: Pinwheel Power Plant - Reward: 1900 coins
  • Level 26: Octoling Onslaught - Reward: 2000 coins

Inkling Squid

The Inkling Squid amiibo is an amiibo that was released on May 29, 2015. It can be used to unlock 20  Kraken and limited-Ink challenges, and shooter challenges in Hero Mode and will provide the player with an exclusive costume piece after completing five challenges. After completing all the challenges, the player will complete the set and receive the exclusive Mech outfit. It is available exclusively for purchase in a pack of three with the Inkling Boy Amiibo and the Inkling Girl Amiibo in North America, and exclusively in a bundle with the main game in Europe. On April 30, 2016 an orange recolor for the Inkling Squid was announced available exclusively in a three pack with the other two recolors.

Challenges

Kraken Challenges

The player must complete the level in a certain amount of time. However, the player is also given the ability to turn into a Kraken instead of a Squid for the entirety of the level. The challenges are as follows:

  • Level 1. Octotrooper Hideout - Reward: 600 coins
  • Level 2. Lair of the Octoballs - Reward: 700 coins
  • Level 3. Rise of the Octocopters - Reward: 800 coins
  • Level 7. Spreader Splatfest - Reward: 1100 coins
  • Level 12. Flooder Junkyard - Reward: 1300 coins
  • Level 13. Shifting Splatforms - Reward: 1400 coins
  • Level 18. Spinning Spreaders - Reward: 1500 coins
  • Level 19. Tumbling Splatforms - Reward: 1600 coins
  • Level 20. Octoling Uprising - Reward: 1700 coins
  • Level 24. Pinwheel Power Plant - Reward: 1900 coins
  • Level 25. Far-Flung Flooders - Reward: 2000 coins

Limited Ink Challenges

The player is given various extra full tanks of Ink and must complete the level with that. When ink is recovered, it is recovered from said extra supply, or, if the supply is empty, does not recover at all. The ink supply does not refresh when the player dies. Once the player runs out of ink, the challenge ends. The challenges are as follows:

  • Level 4. Gusher Gauntlet - 1x Spare Ink Tank - Reward: 900 coins
  • Level 5. Floating Sponge Garden - 1.5x Spare Ink Tank - Reward: 1000 coins
  • Level 11. Inkvisible Avenues - 2x Spare Ink Tank - Reward: 1200 coins
  • Level 23. Spongy Observatory - 2x Spare Ink Tank - Reward: 1800 coins

Boss Challenges

The boss challenges are also Kraken challenges. For each boss, you unlock a unique item, weapon or minigame that depends on the boss.

Squid Sisters (Extra Details)

  • The Amiibo change the plaza to Splatfest mode and they sing and dance to the songs.

Callie

The Callie amiibo is an amiibo that was released on July 8th, 2016, along with the Marie amiibo. It can be used to listen to the Squid Sister songs from the Splatoon original soundtrack, along with her solo, Bomb Rush Blush. You don't have to do any challenges in Hero Mode, as there are no rewards for doing so.

Marie

The Marie amiibo is an amiibo that was released on July 8th, 2016, along with the Callie amiibo. It can be used to listen to the Squid Sisters songs from the Splatoon original soundtrack. You can also listen to her solo, Tide Goes Out with her amiibo. You don't have to do any challenges in Hero Mode, as there are no rewards for doing so.

Other Media

Super Mario Maker

All three Inkling Amiibos are compatible with Super Mario Maker. Each unlocks an 8-Bit sprite of their representative Amiibo which can be used in a similar fashion to a normal Mushroom, the costume also includes custom sound effects.

  • Inkling Girl will unlock an orange Inkling Girl sprite which turns into an orange squid when ducking.
  • Inkling Boy will unlock a blue Inkling Boy sprite which turns into a blue squid when ducking.
  • Inkling Squid will unlock a green Squid sprite. When taunting, the Squid will transform into a dark skinned green Inkling boy wielding a Splat Roller.
