Agent 3 (３号 San-Gō , lit. Number Three?) or Captain is the protagonist Inkling from Splatoon's single player mode, Hero Mode, and the player's character in multiplayer modes, respectively. They can be male or female, and their hair, skin tone, and eye color may vary, depending on the player's choice of customization.
As they are the Inkling who joins Cap'n Cuttlefish's New Squidbeak Splatoon to rescue the Zapfish, they are known as "Agent 3", as the other two Agents are the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie (who are Agents 1 and 2 respectively).
In Splatoon 2, Agent 3 is away with Cap'n Cuttlefish, so another Inkling, the protagonist "Agent 4", follows Marie to find her missing cousin Callie and stop another Octarian theft of the Great Zapfish. They reappear in the Octo Expansion DLC as a non-playable character and a boss.
In Splatoon 3, Agent 3 is named as the Captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, replacing Cuttlefish, and is succeeded by a new member taking on the codename Agent 3.
History[]
Splatoon[]
From a somewhat distant region, away from the bustling streets. When they turned 14, they left their home to be “where fashion is made” but got swept up in Cap'n Cuttlefish's quest to save the Great Zapfish. In Octo Valley, Agent 3 completes various missions to retrieve stolen Zapfish, defeating many Octarians along the way. Eventually, Agent 3 confronts DJ Octavio, rescuing the Great Zapfish and restoring Inkopolis' power supply.
Splatoon 2[]
Octo Expansion[]
Agent 3 returns in Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion. Agent 3 retains their original Hero Suit, now also wearing a gray torn cape with a number "3" in the Inkling language.
Once Agent 8 collected three of the thangs, Cap'n Cuttlefish made a "missing" poster for Agent 3, which allows the player to determine Agent 3's gender, skin color, and eye color.
Splatoon 3[]

The player can customise Captain via a drawing in the Crater, like in the Octo Expansion.
Captain first appears when the Agent 3 fell into Alterna alongside Callie and Marie. The three agree to work with Agent 3 to locate Cuttlefish. After Agent 3 defeats the members of Deep Cut and claims the three treasures, Captain and the Squid Sisters put them together so they could use it to clear the fuzzy ooze surrounding the rocket. However, in doing so, they end up injuring themselves.
Captain soon met up with the rest of the Squidbeak Splatoon during their confrontation with Mr. Grizz. As Captain holds a dehydrated Cuttlefish in their hands, they cry a single tear, resulting in Cuttlefish's revival.
Captain remains in Alterna alongside Callie, Marie, and Cuttlefish after Mr. Grizz has been defeated.

As the third member of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, they’re an Inkling youth who was made a member with a little bit of pushing. Venturing out to save the Great Zapfish kidnapped by the Octarians, they fought an extreme battle, triumphing against DJ Octavio, who had brought about this conflict. Having saved Inkopolis from its power outage crisis, they’re a hero who protected the peace. In the middle of a patrol of Octo Valley with Captain Cuttlefish, they encountered Eight. In the thick of the battle, they become separated from Captain Cuttlefish, and their whereabouts became unknown. Rescuing Eight and Captain Cuttlefish, they manage to find them once again, they faint. Their awareness of whatever person they may be stolen, they stood in Eight’s way as a subordinate of the telephone. Agent 3, having lost control of themselves, heartlessly attacked again and again, but Eight, managing to overcome their numerous trials, narrowly won. Agent 3 successfully recovered, Eight opened the door to the promised land, Inkopolis Square.
Though quiet in Splatoon 3, their speech is spoken through Callie or Marie.

- In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of the customization options for female Inklings is the ability to play as Agent 3, having a light skin tone and blue eyes, but still carrying the regular Splattershot and ink tank from Splatoon.
Splatoon[]
- As of Splatoon 2, Agent 3 is on a mission with Cap'n Cuttlefish.
- In the English translation of Splatoon 2, Marie remarks to Agent 4 that Agent 3 has fairly poor hygiene. However, Cuttlefish debunks this in The Crater.
Splatoon 2[]
- As Agent 3 was about 14 years old around the events of Splatoon and would be around 16 years old during the events of Splatoon 2.
- It's revealed in the Octo Expansion's art book that DJ Sango (Agent 3's rapper name) and Marina were supposed to have an eight-hour long rap battle.
- The reason for why Agent 3 is able to use many special weapons is explained by Marina, saying that Agent 3 had removed their limiter, which implies that they can normally use many specials and have to use something that restricts this ability.
Splatoon 3[]
- Captain has several scars on their hair. This can be examined with the camera.
- If the player has a save file in Octo Expansion and has progressed to the point of being able to customize Agent 3, Captain will retain the same appearance if the player chooses to transfer the save data over to Splatoon 3. However, if the player doesn’t have save file for the Octo Expansion, Captain will first appear as a female Inkling with green eyes.
- The player may choose to customize the appearance of Captain if they interact with a poster found behind Cuttlefish, at The Crater. Unlike in the Octo Expansion, their appearance can be changed at any time after it was originally set.
